Ryan Gosling caused a Twitter frenzy Wednesday when word got out that he had saved a woman in New York from being run over by a car.
British journalist Laurie Penny explained it all, writing, "Everybody needs to calm down about Ryan Gosling saving me from a speeding car."
She doesn't like being the "ditzy damsel in distress," but explains that's what she was. She was thinking about an article she was writing and "didn't remember to look the right way. An actor happened to be passing and stopped me from getting run over by a car. I said 'thank you.' And that was that. The actor happened to be Ryan Gosling."
She writes that while she is "grateful to the dashing and meme-worthy Mr. Goslin," she doesn't understand why everyone is so interested in the star's five-second act.
Penny writes:
Americans are very strange. They can and do hyperventilate about the most everyday happenings as if they are the most important thing in the world, and then they act completely normal when public conversations are had about war on Iran and war on women's bodies and when Rick Santorum is considered a serious presidential candidate. The real heroes I've met in America are risking everything to make sure that the United States doesn't slide further into bigotry, inequality and violence whilst everyone is distracted by the everyday doings of celebrities.

Nicole Kidman is in final negotiations to portray Hollywood icon Grace Kelly in "Grace of Monaco".
The project isn't a biopic and instead focuses on a six month period in 1962 when the city-state got into a heated dispute with France, which grew tired of Monaco being a tax haven. Grace Kelly, still relatively new in her role as princess, maneuvered behind the scenes to save Monaco from a coup.
(Grace Kelly was an actress who broke through playing opposite Gary Cooper in 1952’s "High Noon" and quickly became Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite blond with a trio of now classic films. She married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1955 and soon retired from acting. Her death in 1982, after suffering a stroke and losing control of her car while driving the twisty streets of Monaco, shocked the world. Nearly 100 million people watched her funeral on TV.)
